"Create a Navigation Bar / Links"

Example For Home Page Link:      Home Page

I have all of my navigation buttons for my Portfolio page along the top of

Description of the techniques applied:

The original photo was scanned in from an old black and white photo that a friend had taken of my son when he was a year

old, but unfortunately it was also cut to fit a frame she put it into.

1. First, since the original was of poor quality and resolution, the scanned image didn’t work well, so I took a photograph of the original.

2. I cropped original photo to clean up image edges, and set the resolution and size.

3. I made an adjustment layer to adjust tonal values. I used levels and curves to get the tones and contrast to work a little better.

4. I used the same layer (levels adjustment layer), to make corrections to any scratched or blemishes in the photo using the spot healing tool, patch tool, and the clone stamp tool.

5. I made a copy of the levels adjustment layer to create a color adjustment layer. I applied color to the selected areas using the swatches panel and the eye dropper to adjust color shades. I most of the background in black and white since the photo was not of very good quality to begin with.

6. I then enlarged the canvas for some extra space along the sides to leave room for a border.

7. I made a copy of the color adjustment layer to make a separate layer for the border. I used the brushes tool to make rough edges along the photo.

8. To add some additional effects to the border, I added an additional layer for a border layer to add swirls to the corners of the image with a brush (swirls) tool. (I made the separate layer so that I could play with different swirls brushes before deciding on which one to use.)

9. Last, I made an additional background layer to have a colored background to emphasize the border color and fill the space around the image (tan).

10. I double checked the image size and saved both versions under the “Save for Web or Device” option before placing them in a web page.
